Board members visited Protect our Winters – Switzerland (POW CH) leadership team in Zurich to make a meaningful donation to POW’s efforts in preserving the Swiss ski sports and community in a sustainable way.
Protect our Winters is a global non-profit organization headquarters in Colorado, US and have 11 national charters. POW CH is a Swiss non profit organization (https://www.protectourwinters.ch/).
Nicolas Bornstein, Ph. D., president of POW CH presented the challenges posed by the climate change to the Swiss winter sport community and ski mountains.
Most of Switzerland's ski resorts are unlikely to survive without using artificial snow, a recent study found. Christoph Schuck, a scientist at the Technical University of Dortmund in Germany, came to this conclusion after analyzing Switzerland's 545 ski areas.
The process of producing and applying artificial snow may keep the ski slope commercially viable. But such measures are expensive, consuming a lot of electricity and water, and proved environmentally unfriendly.
SMART Life made meaningful cash donations to avail POW CH to raise public and government awareness of this environmental threat and to reduce irresponsible ski operations. We may revisit POW in 2026 to further our charity giving, if allowable by our budget and family foundation financial resources.

Old Summer Palace Ruins – Yuan Ming Yuan Relics Foundation
The Old Summer Palace, also known as Yuanmingyuan (圆明园) was called the Imperial Gardens or the Winter Palace. It was a complex of palaces and gardens in Beijing, China. One of its effort is to use the first hydrogen-powered tour bus to combine the park site with the virtual reality, rendering the perfect picture of the palatial grandeur to the tourists worldwide.
